“I’m so down…what’s going on?”

Most people especially women can’t figure out why sometimes we feel so down yet we really don’t have any problem. We try to overanalyze things and our situation but can’t come up with a good solution because we don’t know the root cause.

Women are very vulnerable to mood swings, confusion, irritability and even depression which are symptoms of PMS (Pre-Menstrual Syndrome). A lot of men can't get this. This is more shocking to them-some women easily get irritated when men are around; sometimes even with their boyfriends or husbands without no known reason.
It's difficult to understand that even us, women, if not aware of our monthly cycle, usually would wonder why we feel this way. We sometimes cry for no apparent reason. Loneliness usually hits us. And we usually feel that we are at our worst and the ugliest woman in the world. We really don't feel good about ourselves. We suddenly remember and magnify all our problems even if they don't really make any sense.

Medical doctors say this is due to hormonal changes. But whatever that is, it helps to know (for us women and men around us) these PMS symptoms. And by the way, this does not just happen before or during our monthly period. It also happens after childbirth. They call it Postpartum Syndrome. Hmmm. Sounds weird. Needless to say, this is the best time women need full support from their husbands. I wonder how single moms cope up with this. I remember a friend who's a very strong-willed woman. To my surprise, she told me she wanted to commit suicide after giving birth to her first baby. She was not having any problem at all during that time, yet she suddenly felt her life seemed void and she wanted to kill herself.

Some women may not be experiencing these. But for those who do and wanted to combat these, there are simple things we can do:
1. Surround yourself with positive and encouraging people.
2. Go out and give yourself a treat (food, manicure/pedicure, foot spa, haircut, etc.).
3. Listen to soothing music.
4. Pray.
5. Read good books (Bible is recommended especially Book of Psalms).
6. Update your journal (good way to release your emotions).
7. Spend time with your pet or get one.
8. Drink vitamins/minerals (Ferrous sulfate for those with low blood pressure).
9. Eat healthy food especially fruits and vegetables that are good source of magnesium (Banana works best for me).

I usually do these every time I feel it's starting to strike. So far I'm getting good results. I'm doing these again starting today. I know it is coming.

Hope it will be over soon...

Who’s your hope?

Our world is being shaken due to the global economic crisis that we are facing. Many are going through depression and in great turmoil. Fears grip us due to uncertainties of our future. Shocking news like billionaires and wealthy men committing suicide are adding to our fears. For sure, some are still on their way to commit the same mistake of taking their own lives. Heard about Adolf Merckle? As reported, he’s considered to be the third comparable suicide in just less than four months after Kirk Stephenson and Rene-Thierry Magon de la Villehuchet. Another wealthy man in Chicago shot himself dead few weeks ago. Is it just about money or wealth? Is that all there is to life?

What drives us to live? What is life? When we put our hope in someone or something that will not last, then we are actually hopeless. When that thing is gone, then we are gone. There are many people out there who are so poor but still manage to be happy. It’s not about money or wealth. As the saying goes, money can make one’s life easy but won’t make us happy.

Who do you turn to when you lost everything and got nothing? Let us put our hope in Him who created life, the one who authored and created all things. He is in control of our situation. He created the heavens and the earth. Only He can build and destroy. Only He possesses the power to save and to judge. Life is vain without God in our lives. We are nothing apart from Him.
